One of the benefits of being a single parent is that you get greater control over choices regarding your children. When you’re in a relationship, disagreements can arise between people in the relationship. It always happens over one thing or another. As a result, compromises must always be taken in order to account for the differences in opinion. But the problem with compromises is that they are often not as effective a choice as one that could be made if no comprise was needed in the first place. But, if you’re a single parent that’s making enough, no comprises are needed since you can be the sole decider in terms of what you want for your child.

Start When You’re Ready

If your biological clock is ticking then waiting for Mr. Right to come around can be a serious problem even just practically speaking. If you’re ready to have children right now in terms of finances and physical age, but you don’t have a partner that can help you conceive, then this can really put a frustrating halt on things.  And even if you don’t find a partner, it can be awkward to bring up the topic too early in the relationship even though it’s on your mind all the time. The advantage of going it on your own is that you can start whenever you’re ready, and you don’t need to tiptoe around a relationship first, if and when one might start.

One Role Model

Another advantage is that your children will have just the one parental role model, and if you’re a single parent, it’s easy to be a good one! You can instill in your children the idea that you can trust in yourself and make your own decisions that you don’t have to be completely codependent on anyone else in order to get stuff done.

Easier Than You Think

The logistics of getting sperm donation in order to become a single parent is easier than you might think, and in most cases it doesn’t cost more than a few hundred dollars. Another great perk is that you can choose your sperm donor (check out California Cryobank for more details). The initial process usually doesn’t take more than a few weeks, though this can vary widely based on the particular clinic, and it’s obviously an ongoing process in order to make sure the baby is healthy throughout. But the main point is that you could start your family in a shockingly short amount of time, as soon as you decide you’re ready.
